Ecological thinking • Gondolatok a környezetvédelemről

I was thinking about strange things while I packed in some games for our holiday. I noticed that only our board games were in the suitcase. Besides the fact that they are really cool stuff, I faced with a few other points of view that made me choose them. Their size: I spared a lot of space for other things because three of our games gave the size of a “normal” one. Suddenly two words flashed in my mind: logic and environmental awareness. Luckily we have plenty both of them. :-D These two things are the keys to save the environment, not just repeating the old tunes. Even the smallest kids have heard about recycled paper and FSC and PEFC certification which proves that that forests are being cut following the standards, replanted and responsibly maintained. (which we find also extremely important). But have you ever tried to imagine how much energy could be saved with the proper box size fitted to the amount of the content? This is a very important aspect of transportation and storage. ...and all above this: not only the number of toys counts which can be loaded in a truck at a time but also their weight. A huge amount of paper transported without any reason and you don’t even recognize it, because you get used to flipping the game parts out of a paper plate before the first play and sometimes the extra paper is more than the useful parts. Try to imagine the amount of rubbish in the case of a pallet or truckload! You would get ugly numbers as a result. All of this extra paper is transported from the producer to the shops, from the shops to your home, so the fuel and carbon monoxide emissions are higher and higher. I can proudly say: We do not transport extra weight with useless packaging and our games are ready to play. The third thing is plastic. I fought a serious battle with myself: shall we use hot foil on our games or not? I enlighted too in this question: the foil is necessary to cover our prints because with this few micro-millimetres thin layer we protect a game and guarantee that they will stay in perfect condition for a long time. So I could freely choose a suitcase with any content for our games. If they got wet, I simply could wipe it off. On the other hand, the vacuum foil which used to cover the games made of "bare" paper is much thicker (it means more plastic waste) and only protects the games during shipping and storing - until the moment of purchase. As you see, there are many aspects of environmental protection and it cannot be done perfectly right away. The only way to achieve results is to consider and always make the best possible decision. Adding up the results: I think we can be proud of our achievements. We make less harm to the environment with small boxes, no additional paper frames, the very little amount of hot foil on the games. ...and the way we live. :-)

Fura dolgok jutnak az eszembe, ha van időm végre odafigyelni rájuk. Amikor a nyaralásra csomagoltam feltűnt, hogy csak a saját játékainkat pakoltam be. Azon túl, hogy imádom őket, más, nyomós okok miatt is döntöttem mellettük: pl.  A méret. Három játék adta ki egy “normál” játék koordinátáit….és akkor bevillant két szó: logika és környezettudatosság. Örömmel konstatáltam, hogy nekünk mindkettőből van :-D, mert az nagyon kevés, ha csak a megszokott dallamokat ismételgetjük. Már egy óvodás is tudja, hogy csak a felelős erdőgazdaságból származó fát szabad használni, meg újrapapírt és szem előtt kell tartani az újrahasznosíthatóságot is. De arra ki gondol, hogy mennyivel környetbarátabb lenne, ha a játékok doboza tényleg akkora lenne, mint amennyit a tartalom kíván? Ez szállításnál (üzemanyag, szénmonoxid kibocsátás) és raktározásnál (raktár alapterület-fűtés) is igen nyomós szempont. …és persze nem csak az számít, hogy egyszerre hány játék fér egy kamionba, hanem az a nem csekély súly is amit a feleslegesen szállított papírmennyiség képvisel, amiből már rutinos mozdulatokkal pattintgatjuk ki egy új játék alkatrészeit. Egy játéknál is feltűnik a karácsonyfa alatt, hogy milyen mennyiségről beszélünk, de ha egy raklapra vagy kamion méretére felszorozzuk, már csúnya számok jönnek ki. A papír nagyon nehéz! Mivel mindezt fuvarozni is kell a gyártótól a forgalmazóig, a forgalmazótól a boltig (nem kis távolságokról beszélünk) akkor a mérleg nyelve a felhasznált üzemanyag és szénmonoxid kibocsátás kategóriában rögtön kiugrik a környezetbarát sávból. Büszkén kihúztam magam: mi nem szállítunk felesleges súlyt, csomagolóanyagot, és ráadásul a játékaink azonnal játszhatóak - ügyesek vagyunk, piros pont. A harmadik dolog ami folyamatosan foglalkoztat, az a műanyag felhasználás. Mindig dúlt a lelkemben a harc, hogy a játékainkat fóliázzuk-e vagy sem. Most ebben a kérdésben is megvilágosodtam a bőrönd felett: a nyomatainkat bevonó fóliára szükség van! Ezzel a pár mikronnyi vastag réteggel garantáljuk, hogy a játékaink hosszú ideig megőrizik tökéletes állapotukat és én abba a bőrönde teszem, amelyikbe akarom mivel ha ráfolyik valami, letörlöm és pont. Az a fólia viszont, amivel a teljesen “csupasz” papírból készült játékokat vákumozzák sokkal vastagabb (- több műanyag hulladék) és csak a szállítás során és a boltban véd -  a vásárlás pillanatáig. A fontos rész, a játék pedig kopik és/vagy tönkre megy. A környezetvédelemnek rengeteg aspektusa van, és nem lehet azonnal tökéletesen csinálni. Csak úgy lehet elérni eredményeket ha mérlegelünk és mindig a lehető legjobb döntést hozzuk. A lényeg a szándék és az odafigyelés. :-) Összefoglalva a dolgokat azt hiszem büszkék lehetünk az eredményeinkre: a játékaink mérete és súlya is gazdaságos, mivel nem szállítunk bennük felesleges, eldobandó alkatrészeket. A vékony fóliával jóval kisebb környezeti terhelést okozunk, mintha vákumfóliáznák a kész teméket... a legjobb pedig, hogy a mindennapi életünkben sikerült tökélyre fejleszteni az öko gondolkodást (akárcsak Mishának :-D).
